Loopback Setup
Setting Up Loopback With BlackHole
Omnissiah's loopback mode lets you measure the signal coming directly out of your DAW or system output โ without a microphone in the room. To do this, Omnissiah needs to receive your Mac's audio output as an input. Rather than ship our own virtual audio driver, we use BlackHole โ a free, open-source virtual audio driver that already does this exceptionally well. Install it once, point your system output at it, point Omnissiah's loopback input at it, and you're done.
How to set it up:
- 1.Download and install BlackHole from existential.audio/blackhole. The 2ch version is sufficient for loopback use with Omnissiah.
- 2.After installing, open System Settings โ Sound โ Output and set your output device to BlackHole 2ch. This routes your Mac's audio into the virtual driver rather than your speakers.
- 3.In Omnissiah, open the loopback input selector and choose BlackHole 2ch. Omnissiah now receives exactly what your system is playing โ your DAW output, browser audio, or anything else โ as a clean digital signal.
- 4.To hear audio through your speakers and send it to Omnissiah at the same time, use Audio MIDI Setup (found in Applications โ Utilities) to create a Multi-Output Device combining BlackHole 2ch and your normal output. Set that as your system output instead.
