After this chapter you'll know how to select an output to work on, and how to link two outputs so a control changes both at once.
Your outputs
The Really Mean Sub has three outputs:
- the subwoofer output (low-passed — it only plays bass), and
- two speaker outputs (high-passed — they feed your left and right main speakers, playing everything above the crossover).
Each output has its own full set of DSP controls (Chapter 7). Output names are read from the device, and you can rename an output by clicking its name at the top of the Control page (Chapter 7); the app doesn't force fixed labels like “Ch1”.
Selecting an output
- 1In the sidebar, under Devices, find the output you want.
- 2Click it — it gets a yellow left border to show it's selected.
- 3Click Control to open its DSP controls, or click the output again to deselect.
If you open Control with nothing selected, you'll see “No Output Selected” — pick one from the sidebar first.
Choosing which computer audio input and output to use for measurement is a different setting (Settings → Audio, Chapter 12). That screen does offer channel choices and even channel pairs (e.g. Ch1+Ch2) for the measurement signal — but the per-output DSP controls in this chapter are about the device's own outputs.
Linking outputs
Your two speaker outputs usually want the same EQ, crossover and level. Rather than set each one twice, link them: adjust one and the other follows.
On the Really Mean Sub the left and right speaker outputs come already linked from the factory — you'll see them stacked in one card in the sidebar. You only need the steps below if you've unlinked them, or want to change what the link shares.
Create a link
- 1Select an output and open Control.
- 2Click Link in the header. The Link With Device window lists the other outputs.
- 3Click the output you want to link with. The two are now grouped (they appear stacked in one card in the sidebar, with a small link icon).
Choose what the link shares
By default a new link shares everything. You can make individual controls independent — for example, share EQ and crossover but keep Delay separate so you can time-align each speaker.
- 1On a linked output, click Linked to open Linked Controls.
- 2For each control — Mute, Gain, Delay, Polarity, EQ, Crossover — click to toggle between Shared (the control changes on every output in the link at once) and Independent (the control changes only the output you're adjusting).
- 3Click Close.
The window explains it directly: “Shared controls apply to every output in this link. Independent controls change only the output you adjust.”
Remove a link
On a linked output, click Unlink.
Linking your left and right speaker outputs (sharing Gain, EQ and Crossover, keeping Delay independent) is a good default for a stereo pair. Room correction handles linked outputs individually when it measures, so linking them won't stop each one being corrected on its own.
Mono setups
If you use a single main speaker, you can still measure and correct it. The mono option lives in the calibration setup (choose the Mono Speaker layout — Chapter 9), not in the per-output controls here.
