After this chapter you'll have Omnissiah installed, launched, and permitted to use a microphone. You'll be ready to connect your device.
What you need
Computer
- A Mac (macOS). Apple silicon and Intel Macs both work. A Windows version is in development.
- A free USB-C port (or an adapter) to connect the device.
Hardware
- Your Really Mean Sub, powered on, with a USB-C cable to your computer.
- For measurement and room correction: a measurement microphone connected to your Mac (typically a USB measurement mic, or a measurement mic on an audio interface). You don't need a mic to adjust levels and EQ by hand, only to measure and run room correction.
Omnissiah measures your room by playing test noise through your speakers and recording it. For the numbers to mean anything, use a proper measurement microphone (one with a known, flat response), not a laptop or vocal mic.
Installing the app
- 1Get the Omnissiah app from Tantrum Audio (download link or supplied file).
- 2If it arrives as a disk image or zip, open it and drag Omnissiah into your Applications folder.
- 3Double-click Omnissiah to launch it.
The first time you open an app downloaded from outside the Mac App Store, macOS may ask you to confirm you want to open it. If it's blocked, open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down, and click Open Anyway.
First launch
When Omnissiah starts, it spends a moment getting ready. You'll see the logo and a spinner with “Getting things ready…” while it sets up its audio engine and looks for devices.
This is normal and usually quick. When it finishes, the main window appears.

Allowing microphone access
Room correction needs to record from your microphone, so macOS will ask for permission the first time the app tries to use it.
- 1When macOS shows the microphone prompt, click Allow (OK).
- 2If you clicked Don't Allow by mistake, turn it back on in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and switch Omnissiah on.
If microphone access is blocked, Omnissiah won't start a measurement that can't record anything. It stops with a message telling you to allow the app in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and try again.
After updating Omnissiah, macOS may ask for microphone permission once more. Click Allow again. Your settings and calibrations are unaffected.
